Publication Requirements for the "History Journal of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University"

1. Technical Parameters

Volume (including abstract and references): article – 0.5 author's sheets; review/brief report – up to 0.25 author's sheets.

Format and font: A4, Times New Roman, 14 pt.

Spacing and margins: 1.5 line spacing; margins – 2 cm on all sides.

Paragraph and pages: 0.5 cm paragraph indentation; pages must be numbered.

Typography: use quotation marks « », use an en-dash "–" (do not confuse with a hyphen "-").

2. Sequence of Structural Elements of the Article

  1. UDC (Universal Decimal Classification).
  2. Article title (in Ukrainian).
  3. Author(s) (in Ukrainian).
  4. Abstract (in Ukrainian) – no less than 800 characters.
  5. Keywords (in Ukrainian).
  6. Article title (in English). Transliteration is prohibited, except for proper names that cannot be translated.
  7. Author(s) (in English).
  8. Abstract (extended abstract in English) – no less than 1800 characters. It must not be identical to the Ukrainian one.

Attention: For articles written in English, the extended Ukrainian abstract must be ≥1800 characters, and the English Abstract must be ≥800 characters.

  2. Main text of the article. Mandatory elements include:
    • Statement of the scientific problem and its significance;
    • Analysis of recent research;
    • Formulation of the purpose and objectives;
    • Presentation of the main material;
    •  

3. Requirements for the Abstract Text

Language: Professional English without the use of automatic translators. Use field-specific terminology.

Content: Informative, original (not a direct translation of the shortened Ukrainian version), and meaningful. It should reflect the main content and results.

Structure: Rubrication is recommended (subject, theme, purpose, methodology, results, conclusions).

Stylistics: Avoid unnecessary introductory phrases (e.g., "the author considers"), historical background, well-known facts, and overly complex grammatical structures.

Abbreviations: Non-standard abbreviations must be defined at their first use.

4. Formatting of In-Text Citations (Endnotes)

Citations are placed automatically at the end of the article. Rule: Citations are given in the original language, without transliteration!

Repeated citation: Use the shortened title of the work. It is forbidden to use terms like «там само», «там же», «Ibidem».

Place of publication: Write in full (e.g., Київ, Москва, Kraków, New-York).

Volumes and pages: Ukrainian/Russian – «т.», «с.»; foreign – «vol.», «p.».

English-language literature: The English translation of the title in square brackets is not added.

Examples of formatting different types of sources:

Journals: Initials, Surname, Title in italics [Translation of the title into English], in «Journal Name», year, issue, pages.

М. Ждан, Романовичі і Німецький Хрестоносний орден [Romanovichi and the German Crusader Order], in «Український історик», 1973, вип. 3-4, с. 56.

Collections: Initials, Surname, Title in italics [Translation into English], in Collection Title, volume, initials and surname of the editor, City, Publisher, year, pages.

Цалик, Про що змовчали біографи Миколи Бажана [What silent biographers about Mykola Bazhan], in «Таємниці письменницьких шухляд...», Київ, Наш час, 2010, с. 32-35.

Monographs: Initials, Surname (patronymic is not needed), Title in italics [Translation into English], City, Publisher, year, pages.

І. Крип’якевич, Галицько-Волинське князівство [Galician-Volyn principality], Київ, Наукова думка, 1984, с. 98.

Archival materials: Full name of the institution (subsequently abbreviated), f., op., spr., ark.

Центральний державний історичний архів України у Львові, ф. 146 Галицьке намісництво, оп. 1, спр. 29 Донесення Намісництва про вибори депутатів, арк. 1.

Old periodicals (without author): Title in italics (City), year, number, date, page.

Діло (Львів), 1905, н. 5, 20 березня, с. 3.

5. Formatting the Reference List (References)

Submitted as a separate block after all citations. This is a fully transliterated list (in the Roman alphabet) of all sources, formatted according to the Harvard reference system.

Block title: References.

Even foreign sources from the original list must be repeated here in Latin script.

6. Documents and Peer Review Process

What to send:

  1. The file with the article.
  2. The electronic and scanned author's information form with a signature (download template).
  3. A scanned recommendation from an academic supervisor (only for authors without an academic degree; the signature must be certified by an official seal).

Stages of review:

  1. Check for compliance with requirements (up to 2 weeks).
  2. Anonymous evaluation by an editor.
  3. Transfer to two independent reviewers (Double-blind peer review).
  4. In case of a negative review, the author receives anonymous feedback and a refusal to publish. If a revision is needed, the manuscript is returned for corrections within a specified timeframe.
